Building successful communities of practice within organisations

Communities of practice are vital for any organisation that employs people with specialist skills and capabilities. They support professional development, help to break down silos, support knowledge sharing, lead to creating better practices, scale approaches and result in happier staff. To make them successful they take the right approach and the right support.

“I really liked the maturity framework it has been very useful to measure the current state of the community. It has also helped me build a plan for improving the maturity of the community, by providing some of the softer elements as well as the tangible elements which need to be addressed. It was good to get an outward perspective on the maturity of the community, as sometimes working closely on these things on a daily basis you sometimes start to be inward-looking and blinkered to new ideas so this was refreshing.”
